Nowadays, multiple orthodontic options can be used to straighten the teeth of a teen who suffers from dental misalignment. Among teens, Invisalign is one of the most popular options because of the benefits associated with the treatment.

Teens who choose Invisalign can enjoy having their teeth properly aligned in a discrete manner. The aligners that are used to straighten the teeth are made of clear plastic that is practically invisible against the teeth.

In addition, Invisalign aligners are removable, so they do not hinder the normal dental hygiene practices of the teen. The teen can also eat without fearing that he or she will be embarrassed by bits of food being caught in the brackets of braces.

Although the Invisalign system offers multiple advantages, users must still observe precautions to ensure the success of the treatment. Here are a few of the measures Invisalign patients should take.

Wear the Aligning Trays as Prescribed

Invisalign aligning trays must be kept in the mouth the majority of the day and night in order for the teeth to become properly aligned. In fact, the aligners should be out of the mouth no more than a couple of hours daily. Thus, Invisalign patients should only remove the aligners to eat, brush, and floss.

Clean the Aligning Trays Regularly

In addition to brushing and flossing the teeth, Invisalign wearers should keep their aligners clean. Several sets of aligners are used to complete the treatment of the teeth. Each set is worn for a couple of weeks and then replaced by the next aligner set in the treatment plan.

Since the same set of aligners is worn for a couple of weeks, they must be kept clean. To clean the aligners, wearers should brush and rinse the trays when the patients clean their teeth. Cleaning the aligners helps prevent the trays from accumulating plaque that could cause tooth decay and gum inflammation.

Wear Elastic Bands if Prescribed

Although elastic bands are often associated with braces, they are sometimes used with the Invisalign system as well. Invisalign wearers may need to wear elastic bands to help correct bite problems. If a teen patient fails to wear the bands as prescribed, the teen's dental alignment and bite correction may not occur as quickly as intended.

If your teen is interested in having his or her teeth treated using the Invisalign system, schedule a consultation with a dentist or orthodontist in your local area.
